Algieri applying his college education experiece Vs. Pacquiao

Chris Algieri is taking a very scientific approach in his buildup for the Nov. 23, 2014 showdown with Manny Pacquiao in Macau. The 30-year-old Algieri is a degree holder in healthcare and nutrition, applying His college education experience to train for the onslaught of Pacquiao in Macau, telling ESPN.com that everything he does conforms to proven medical theories. “I average between eight to nine hours of sleep a night/day between naps,” Algieri said during a break in training camp in Las Vegas, the launching pad of his trip to Macau on Nov. 12 or 13. “I generally eat between five to seven times a day, around 3,500 calories,” said Algieri, noting that his diet consists of “fresh fruits and colorful veggies” aside from “complex grains and no processed foods.” Being a chef also gives the 5-foot-10 Algieri the chance to prepare and cook his own meals. Apart from a strict diet, Algieri also does the usual strength and conditioning, cardio work, sprints and “massages for recovery once a week and take an ice bath.” “I take a very scientific and calculated approach to everything I do when in training leading up to the fight and in the ring on fight night. Manny said that I will be the most conditioned and smartest fighter that he will ever face. He is right.” Algieri earned a crack at Pacquiao after scoring a stunning win over Ruslan Provodnikov of Russia last June. Having entered professional boxing late as he dabbled in kickboxing and full-contact karate, Algieri believes his experience in mixed-martial arts will help him score another upset. But Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach insists Algieri will be in for a rude awakening when he gets the furious fists of the Filipino star.
