Pacquiao makes weight easily, Algieri takes three tries to get under 144

Manny Pacquiao easily made the 144-pound catch weight limit for the first defense of his WBO welterweight title Saturday morning here, weighing in at 143.8. The reigning champion did not have to exert much effort to cut weight as he was at the 141-142 pound range a few days before the weigh in.

Chris Algieri, the natural light welterweight, was the one who struggled with weight as he first weighed in at 144.4 pounds. Algieri then dropped his underwear to officially weigh in at 144.2 pounds.

Algieri did some light workout backstage as the gloves for Sunday's fight were all checked. After barely 30 minutes, the American fighter weighed in at 143.6 pounds. The only drawback to this development is that while Pacquiao has already started rehydrating, Algieri needed to spend a handful of minutes to drop the weight.
